FOAMGLAS® Insulation Solutions by Application

Chilled Water

Wet insulation accelerates corrosion, water spotting and the growth of mold and mildew, which can contribute to property and equipment damage or “sick building syndrome.” Highly vulnerable to water vapor intrusion, chilled water applications present a real challenge for insulation systems, especially in hot, humid climates. Chilled water systems typically involve chilled water supply and return lines, vessels and equipment. Equipment and piping can be indoors or outdoors, above or below ground.

Whenever the heat and humidity of the area are high and the temperature of the pipes is lower than the dew point of the surrounding air, vapor tends to migrate toward the pipe and condensation can occur. Without an impermeable insulation, the moisture is absorbed into the system. Additionally, because many chilled water applications are within inhabited buildings, the flame and smoke spread of the insulation is also a concern.

FOAMGLAS® cellular glass insulation is 100% cellular glass and completely closed-celled, making it impermeable to moisture in any form and giving it the lowest flame/smoke spread of any insulation on the market.
